Linda “Tui” Joyce Tillery (1948) is a Grammy nominated Black Lesbian songwriter, percussionist,, and producer from San Francisco. Tillery has had a passion for music since she was a baby, by the age of 19 she was the lead vocalist in the Bay Area rock band The Loading Zone. In her single “Womanly Way” she sings of lesbian desire featured on slide 3, and was released in 1977. After years of producing at the feminist record label Olivia Records, she left in 1979 and in the early 1990’s she began exploring slave hymns which grew into The Cultural Heritage Choir which is still active today!
