Adrienne Fuzee, circa 1980
Adrienne Louise Fuzee (May 1950 - May 2003) was the first Black queer woman in the US to work as a curator for the San Francisco Arts Commission. She was involved with numerous LGBTQ artistic groups including co-editing for Unsolicited Commentary (a journal of cultural criticism), sitting as co-chair of Lesbians in the Visual Arts (LVA) and a founding board member of the Queer Cultural Center (QCC).
Adrienne, also known as ALF, A., or Allen Fuzzy had many interests and talents. She was a poet, artist, singer/songwriter and cook. A lot of her passions would coincide with her work. She was well-loved and respected in the Bay Area queer scene from the 80’s to early 2000’s. After a long battle with diabetes, Fuzze died in 2003 just two days after her birthday.
